Coupon books for sale

North Hagerstown Lions Club members are selling Sheetz coupon books for $10 with an expiration date of Jan. 1, 2016. There are a few bonus books, as well, that cost $32 with an expiration date of Dec. 2, 2013.

The books can be used in the Tri-State area. Proceeds will be used to help nonprofit agencies.

Yard sale

The Mason-Dixon Barbershop Chorus, along with many other vendors, will participate Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the annual yard sale at Western Maryland Hospital Center on Pennsylvania Avenue in Hagerstown.

It will be a fundraiser for the chorus to purchase music, pay liability insurance and support local charities. The chorus has rented spaces 56, 57 and 58.

The yard sale is sponsored by the hospital auxiliary.  

Chorus members will sing their barbershop favorites.

Meeting set

The Sons and Daughters Club of Italy will hold a business meeting Tuesday, April 30, at 7 p.m. at Morris Frock Post 42 American Legion on Northern Avenue in Hagerstown. Food will be available. Anyone of Italian heritage is welcome to attend.

Musical presentation

The First Christian Church Chancel Choir will hold a dinner and presentation Friday of “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat,” a musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber. 

The show will benefit the choir trip to perform in Bruton Parish, Williamsburg, Va.  

The doors open at 5:30 p.m. A family-style meal of baked chicken or beef brisket will be served at 6 p.m. The show begins at 7 p.m.

Tickets cost $20 in advance or $25 at the door. Advance tickets can be obtained by calling 301-733-0144 (please indicate your choice of meal.)  

The church is at 1345 Potomac Ave.

Women’s Club

The Women’s Club invites the community to a wine and cheese tasting Friday, May 17, starting at 6 p.m. at the club, 31 S. Prospect St.

Tickets cost $10 per person.

Wine from Red Heifer Winery in Smithsburg, and cheese and sorbet from Misty Meadow Farm Creamery LLC in Ringgold will be available.

There will also be a silent auction of items, and appetizers and desserts made by Women’s Club members.

Zumba at Pangborn

The Washington County Recreation Department will offer Zumba classes at Pangborn Elementary School on Saturdays from May 11 to Aug. 3 (no class May 25).

Classes will be held from 8 to 8:45 a.m.

The classes cost $25 for county residents; $30 for out-of-county residents; and $20 for those ages 55 and older.

Net losses for the week totaled 15 1/2 pounds for TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) Chapter 0077. 

The best TOPS losers were Patsy Martin and Valerie Eccard. Lu M., Dianne Keely, Jean Betker and Dorothy Smith were the best KOPS (Keep Off Pounds Sensibly) losers.

Betty Rice won the ha-ha prize.

The no-no food is ice cream.

The topic of the program was skin care and health.

Jean B. and Carol LeClaire will lead the activity for the May contest.

The group meets Monday mornings at First Christian Church, 1345 Potomac Ave. in Hagerstown.
