Lioness Club to meet

The Hagerstown Lioness Club will hold its regular meeting Thursday, May 2, at the Academy Theater Banquet and Conference Center in downtown Hagerstown.

The guest speaker will be Denny Warrenfeltz.   

Doors open at 6 p.m. and dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m. Cancellations or guest reservations must be called in to 301-791-3431.

Civil War lecture

Daniel C. Toomey will present “Old Men in Blue and Gray: Maryland Civil War Veterans,” Thursday, May 2, at 7 p.m. at the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts.

Toomey will be featured as the ninth of 11 speakers in the yearlong Civil War lecture series presented by the museum. Offered through July, the lectures are held in conjunction with the museum’s headline exhibition, “Valley of the Shadow,” commemorating the 150th anniversary of the Civil War in Maryland and Southern Pennsylvania. 

Dinner will be served in the museum’s Kaylor Atrium at 6 p.m., followed by the lecture in the Bowman Concert Gallery.

 The lecture is sponsored in part by a Maryland Heritage Areas Authority grant and M&T Bank.

Tickets for dinner and the lecture cost $20 for museum members and $25 for nonmembers. Tickets for the lecture only cost $5 for nonmembers and are free to museum members.

Parents Day Out Program

The Parents Day Out Program at St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church is accepting registration for students wishing to enter classes in September.

The preschool/nursery program is held on Thursdays from September through May from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Classes are available for those ages 1 to 5 years.

Tuesday — Ted Shankle, executive director of the Hagerstown Housing Authority, will be the guest speaker.

Scavenger hunt

There will be a scavenger hunt Saturday, May 4, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday, May 5, from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Mansion House Art Center in City Park as part of the annual Museum Ramble.

Children are invited to participate in the scavenger hunt and view the art on display.

The event is free.

The Mansion House is at 501 Highland Way behind City Park in Hagerstown.
