Rabbi for Congregation B'nai Abraham to retire

April 21, 2013

Fred Raskind, rabbi for Congregation B’nai Abraham, is retiring this summer, he said Sunday.

“I will have completed 10 years of service, and I’m actually retiring to a small, part-time congregation in Florida,” Raskind said.

“I will miss Hagerstown and I will miss B’nai Abraham. It’s been a lovely, lovely ministry and rabbinate for me,” he said.

Leiba Cohen, the congregation’s president, said Raskind “left us in a good place.”

Raskind will retire in June and Rabbi Ari Plost will start July 1, Cohen said.

“He’s excited to be coming back to Maryland. His family is from Potomac, so he’s very excited to be here,” Cohen said.

Cohen said Plost was an assistant rabbi for a large congregation in San Antonio and a visiting rabbi for a congregation in Corpus Christi, Texas.

“He’ll bring new ideas and ... we’re looking forward to it,” she said.
