Thumbs Up, Thumbs Down - April 20

April 20, 2013

Thumbs up to all those who leaped into action Monday to help the victims of the bombing at the Boston Marathon. We expect and acknowledge heroics from first responders who regularly put their lives on the line for others, but were impressed by the actions of scared bystanders and runners who helped victims until emergency crews arrived.

Thumbs down to the person who recently strung a wire across a hiking trail at Wilson College in Chambersburg, Pa. Pennsylvania State Police said the wire was about a foot off the ground. This act could have injured someone, possibly seriously. No one is laughing.

Thumbs up to all those responsible for helping United Way of Washington County raise $1.69 million during its 2012 campaign. The United Way did not reach its goal of $1.75 million, but still, that’s a lot of money in a tough economic time. The money raised will help many people from United Way of Washington County’s 25 member agencies.
