Katherine Lee Hawk, 75, of Cody, Wyo., passed away Wednesday, April 17, 2013, at her home.

She was born Sept. 27, 1937, in Martinsburg, W.Va.

Kitty, as she liked to be called, was the daughter of the late Harry S. Grant Sr. and Abbie Tabler Grant.

Kitty graduated from Martinsburg High School with the class of 1955. While a student at Shepherd University, she was voted homecoming queen in 1957. She earned her bachelor's degree in teaching, and taught at Hedgesville Elementary, then later at Marlowe Elementary, to finish out her 19-year career. Upon retirement, she and John moved from Marlowe, W.Va., to Cody.

She is survived by her husband of 54 years, John M. Hawk Jr. of Cody; two daughters, Mary Brown and husband, Chuck, of Williamsport, Md., and Laura Short and husband, Andy, of Cumming, Ga.; three granddaughters, Jennifer Grove and husband, Ryan, of Hagerstown, Md., Lauren Broadwater and husband, Corey, of Hagerstown, and Brittany Short of Duluth, Ga.; and one great-grandson, Maddox Jace Broadwater.

Her favorite things to do were traveling, antique collecting, playing cards with friends and spending time with her family.

She is also survived by one brother, Robert Grant and wife, Elsie, of Florida; one sister, Mary Robertson of California; and two nephews and two nieces.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Harry Grant Jr.; and one brother-in-law, James Robertson.

Following cremation, a memorial service will be Friday, May 31, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Lifehouse Church Bethel, 515 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, with visitation hour before the service.
