April 19, 2013

WAYNESBORO, Pa. — A 3-year-old girl was killed and a 4-year-old boy sustained major injuries when two vehicles collided Thursday afternoon on Wayne Avenue in Quincy Township, Pa., Pennsylvania State Police said.

The names of the children were not provided in a state police news release that was issued Friday morning.

Franklin County Coroner Jeffrey R. Conner said Friday afternoon that the girl died of her injuries at Chambersburg Hospital, but he was not prepared to release her name.

Two other people, Kessa N. Wagaman, 20, of Rouzerville, Pa., and Rose M. Biddinger, 56, of Waynesboro, Pa., were taken to Chambersburg Hospital with moderate injuries, according to the release.

Wagaman was listed in satisfactory condition Friday morning, a hospital spokeswoman said.

No information was available on Biddinger and the 4-year-old boy.

Police said the accident happened at 5:41 p.m. Thursday on Wayne Avenue (Pa. 316), about 40 feet north of Altenwald Road.

A 2001 Ford Escape that Biddinger was driving south on Wayne Avenue entered the northbound lane to avoid striking the rear of a vehicle that was stopped, troopers said. The Ford then collided head-on with a 1995 Toyota Corolla being driven north by Wagaman.

Troopers said the children were riding in the Toyota.

The Ford came to rest facing north in the northbound lane, and the Toyota came to rest facing south in the southbound lane.
