Mail Call - April 18

April 17, 2013

“Has anybody else besides me noticed that these moderators on these programs that ask their guests questions, when they don’t get the answer they want, they interrupt the guest and they go on and tell them what they think? And the people who do it the most are the Republicans. ... I think that is very, very, very rude.”
— Falling Waters, W.Va.

“I’m thankful that we are only having trash pickup once a week, but we are increasing our curbside recycling to once a week, and thus saving the town almost $38,000 this year. During these tough economic times, we need to be fiscally conservative, and not wasteful and trashy.”
— Boonsboro

“I don’t know why the caller out of Washington (County) thinks that Annapolis is showing that we’re no longer the home of the free, by doing something about gun control. Unless he can’t pass the mental health check or the regular check, then maybe that’s why he thinks he’s not, no longer in the home of the free. And you don’t need automatic clips, either. And by the way, you are free to move out of the state of Maryland.”
— Hagerstown

“The question most asked in the Sharpsburg area right now is, ‘Do you know who threw the rope on Bucky?,’ and the answer would be yes, we do know. But that’s not the part of it. Whether we know or not, Bucky will never be back. He was just the most trusting, friendly, nicest creature you ever saw, and due to his trust, he died. So I hope whoever did that, which we do know who it is, I hope that they think about it the rest of their life.”
— Sharpsburg

“Thumbs up to the Washington County BOE for choosing the Allegheny Power building in the county. It is not the Hagerstown BOE, it’s the county’s. So it is in the county, where it belongs. The heating and cooling systems can be installed in each room and controlled in each unit, like they do in hospitals and motels, how they are served at this time. Everyone is in control of their own room.”
— Berkeley Springs, W.Va.

“I’d like to know what the President Obama fans think of the trillion-dollar tax proposal he has for 2014. The government wants us to say no to drugs and alcohol, but I say that we say no to any new taxes. Nobody wants to stand together anymore.”
— Hagerstown

“I’m calling to proclaim the exposure of the farce that the speed cameras are to protect school kids. When Sheriff Mullendore proposes to put them in the county, as a way to raise money to fund one of his pet projects, that says it all.”
— Hagerstown

“Congratulations to the BOE, on their being smart enough to purchase the Allegheny Power building and land. If the hospital would have done that, we would not be spending millions of dollars, taxpayer dollars, on road upgrades and bypasses.”
— Washington County

“Please do something to keep the unique Suns baseball here. We have something that a lot of cities would like to have. And also, during the Easter weekend, down at the ball field where they had the Easter egg hunt, with thousands of people there, just think, and have a vision what all it could be used for.”
— Hagerstown

“For the Boonsboro caller on April 11 who thanked God for Cindy Kauffman: Councilwoman Kauffman is not opposed to recycling. What she was opposed to was that there wasn’t another recycling/trash option requested during the bidding process. With the newly approved option, the town will be saving $37,700 per year. So, Boonsboro residents who are still opposed to recycling, you are just shooting yourself (and Mother Earth) in the foot if you keep resisting recycling. The town has gone to great lengths not to charge you extra for recycling. Get with the program.”
— Boonsboro
