Martinsburg High hosts Musselman for Strike Out Cancer Night

April 17, 2013

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — The Martinsburg High School baseball team will play host to Musselman on Friday in a varsity game at P.O. Faulkner Park in Martinsburg for Strike Out Cancer Night 2013.

Opening ceremonies for the seventh year of the annual event are slated to begin at 6:45 p.m.

There will be cancer donation and information booths at the ballpark as well as a memorial and survivor wall, Berkeley County Schools spokeswoman Leah Daniel said.

Held by Martinsburg High School, Strike Out Cancer raised more than $13,000 last year for Relay for Life, officials said.

Berkeley County Board of Education member Ron Gray, a cancer survivor, is expected to throw out the first pitch for the game, which is the culmination of a week of activities, officials said.

Superintendent Manny P. Arvon on Tuesday saluted the county school district’s 100 percent participation in Relay for Life activities, saying it was one of the best activities in which the district is involved.

The school district combined to raise more than $75,000, officials said in December.
