Four charged in connection with Monday shooting in Hagerstown

Victim, wounded in leg, was treated at Meritus Medical Center

A Hagerstown man has been charged with reckless endangerment and other counts in connection with a shooting in which a man was wounded Monday evening in the 200 block of Jonathan Street, Hagerstown police said Tuesday.

John Anthony Leonard IV, 18, of 133 Bethel St., also was charged with wearing and carrying a firearm, and possession of a firearm under 21, according to a Hagerstown Police Department news release.

Officers said they were called Monday at 6:57 p.m. for a report of shots being fired to the rear of 225 Jonathan St. Responding officers found a man in the 100 block of Bethel Street who had a gunshot wound to his right leg.

The man was taken to Meritus Medical Center east of Hagerstown, where medical personnel determined his wound was nonlife-threatening, police said.

According to an email from Lt. Tom Langston of the Hagerstown Police Department, others arrested and charged in the incident were Jermaine Reed II, 19, John T. Gossard IV, 26, and Matthew S. Gardner, 26, who each face handgun violation charges.
