Registration required for chocolate cupcake contest

April 16, 2013

A chocolate cupcake contest takes place Saturday, April 27, as part of Main Street Martinsburg.

Bakers must enter two dozen cupcakes. All cupcakes will be entering the Chocolate Walk for the public to taste, as well. Cupcakes must be in standard cupcake liners. All cupcakes must contain chocolate with anything else you want to add. Participants may submit two entries and there are no age restrictions.

Bring a small index card stating the type of your cupcake. Please put your name on the card. This is considered part of your presentation. Props are permitted to help tell the cupcakes' story, however props and cupcakes must fit in a two-foot space.

Entries may be made from scratch or a box mix. Entrants must submit a list of ingredients at check-in. Nuts are permitted; please be sure to accurately label cupcakes containing nuts or nut derivatives.

Check in is between 8 and 10 a.m. at the 1902 Building on the corner of Martin Street and Queen Street in downtown Martinsburg. There is a $10 fee per entry, which includes admission into the Chocolate Walk. Each cupcake will be evaluated by all judges. Judge's ballots will be collected and tabulated to determine the first, second and third-prize winners.

Winners will be announced at 1 p.m. the day of the event. You must have a registration form on file to be judged. All entries are due Monday, April 22.

First place will receive $500; second place is $150. Top register, go to www.mainstreetmartinsburg.com.
