Mrs. Thelma May (McNamee) Oberholzer, 83, of 10805 Worleytown Road, Greencastle, Pa., went home to be with the Lord Sunday, April 14, 2013, in Meritus Hospital, Hagerstown, Md. She had been in failing health a number of years and critically ill for the past six weeks.

Born April 9, 1930, in Baltimore, Md., she was the daughter of the late Paul E.C. and Mary Elizabeth (Mowen) McNamee. She lived most of her life in Greencastle.

Mrs. Oberholzer attended Hagerstown schools.

She and her husband, Preston W. “Babe” Oberholzer Jr., were married on Dec. 3, 1949, in Hagerstown.

Mrs. Oberholzer worked as a cook during the 1970s for Sunnyway Diner, Greencastle, and Frank L. Carbaugh American Legion Post 373, Greencastle. During the late 1980s and early 1990s she volunteered as a cook for Rhodes Grove Campground, Kauffman Station, Pa.

She enjoyed tenpin and duckpin bowling and was a member of leagues at Turner’s Dual Lanes, Southside Bowl, Nellie Fox Bowl and most recently at Longmeadow Bowl. She participated in State Bowling Championships during the 1980s and 90s.

Mrs. Oberholzer was a member of American Legion Post 42 Auxiliary, Hagerstown.

She enjoyed time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed tending to her bird “Bandit,” watching game shows and ballgames on TV, especially the Philadelphia Phillies. She also had a gift of sending greeting cards to family and friends. She never missed a birthday. She will be greatly missed by all.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Barbara Ann Moats and her husband, Kenny, of Greencastle, Deborah Kay Goetz and her husband, Rudy, of Greencastle; three sons, Preston Crawford Oberholzer and his wife, Deborah, of Chambersburg, Eric Drew Oberholzer of Greencastle, Scott Gordon Oberholzer and his fiancée, Rhonda Mower, of Greencastle; 12 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, four stepgrandchildren, five stepgreat-grandchildren; five sisters, Lorraine Ebersole and her husband, Manny, of Hagerstown, Elaine Lewis of Hagerstown, Lois Helman of Hagerstown, Patricia Michael of Hagerstown, Janice McDaniel and her husband, Lawrence, of Fayetteville, Pa.; one brother, Paul McNamee of Hagerstown; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter, Adele “Cookie” Lehman; one granddaughter, Sherri Field; four brothers, Samuel McNamee, Charles McNamee, Lindy McNamee, Billy McNamee; two sisters, Virginia Stonebraker, Lillian Bartles, and an infant sister, Mahalia Jane.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 19, 2013, in Macedonia U.B. Church, 11887 Worleytown Road, Greencastle, with Rev. Gayle L. Ruble Sr. officiating. Burial will follow in Beautiful View Cemetery, State Line, Pa.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in Miller-Bowersox Funeral Home, 521 S. Washington St., Greencastle, and for one hour prior to the service Friday in the church.
