Betty Jane Burger, 88, of Scarhill Road, Greencastle, Pa., passed away Friday, April 12, 2013, at Waynesboro (Pa.) Hospital.

Born June 14, 1924, in Mercersburg, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Herbert Melvin and Jennie Belle (Cordell) Swope.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Raymond Leroy “Skeeter” Burger, on June 30, 2005.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of State Line United Methodist Church and a former member of the State Line Ruritan Auxiliary.

She is survived by son, David Michael Burger and wife, Tracy, of Greencastle; daughter, Dena M. Burger of Greencastle; sisters, Evelyn Downs of Hagerstown, Mary Catherine Wallace of Ben Brook, Texas, and Wilda Synan of Silver Spring, Md.; brother, Bennett Swope of Ashley, Ohio; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by sister, Verna Brandenburg; brother, Richard Swope; and two other sisters.

A graveside service will be Wednesday, April 17, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown, Md., with Pastor Guy W. Camp III officiating.


In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in memory of Betty Jane to the Franklin County Area Agency on Aging Food Program, 600 N. Norland Ave., Suite 11, Chambersburg, PA 17201.
