MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — A Martinsburg man was killed Saturday night when he was thrown from his motorcycle after it collided with a vehicle at the intersection of Apple Harvest Drive and Loop Road, according to West Virginia State Police.

Curtis Lee Smith, 33, was pronounced dead at the scene, Sgt. Michael A. Cole said in a news release.

The driver of the car, Horace Thomas, 63, of Gerrardstown, W.Va., was taken to City Hospital in Martinsburg for minor injuries, Cole said.

Police determined that both vehicles were traveling south on Apple Harvest Drive (W.Va. 45) when the motorcycle attempted to pass the car on the left-hand side of the road.

At the same time, Thomas started turning left onto Loop Road and the motorcycle struck the driver’s-side door of the vehicle, resulting in Smith being thrown from the motorcycle, police said.
