The Rev. David E. Garns, 88

The Rev. David Edward Garns, 88, of Hagerstown, Md., passed away Thursday, April 11, 2013, at Reeders Memorial Nursing Home.

Born March 13, 1925, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late James E. and Hazel A. Garns, and was preceded in death by two brothers, James S. and John L. Garns.

The Rev. Garns was in the ministry for more than 60 years, building and planting churches in many states, and was gifted in singing, song writing and playing the piano and organ. He retired as pastor of Faith Mission Church in Wardensville, W.Va., at the age of 84.

He is survived by his wife, Charlene C. Garns; sons, David E. Garns Jr. and wife, Brenda, and Raymond L. Garns; daughters, Sue Garns, and Kim Mills and husband, Jeff; grandchildren, David E. Garns III, Ashley C. Renner and fiancé, Dennis Dolsen, and Candace L. Witt and husband, Jon A.; and great-grandchildren, Taylor L. and Hailey Garns, Caden P. Reese and Rylee G. Witt.

A memorial service will be Thursday, April 18, 2013, at 11 a.m. at The Good Shepherd Ministries Church, 19763 Longmeadow Road, Hagerstown, and will be officiated by the Rev. Steve McCullough and the Rev. James Miller.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to The Good Shepherd Ministries or Faith Mission Church, P.O. Box 157, Wardensville, WV 26851.
