Schill provides thrill for Suns

LAKEWOOD, N.J. — Wes Schill drove in three runs and a trio of Hagerstown pitchers combined on a four-hitter as the Suns shut out Lakewood 6-0 on Wednesday to sweep a three-game series.

The Suns (4-3) ride their three-game winning streak back to Municipal Stadium for their home opener tonight at 6:35 p.m. against Delmarva.

Schill hit a two-run single in Hagerstown’s three-run second inning and added an RBI single in the eighth to pace the Suns.

Blake Schwartz (2-0) pitched five two-hit innings with six strikeouts for Hagerstown. Bryan Harper struck out four in 2 1/3 innings and Travis Henke earned the save with 1 2/3 hitless innings to close out the shutout.

The Suns scored three in the second off Lakewood starter Josh Warner (0-1). Carlos Lopez drew a one-out walk and took second on J.R. Higley’s single before Stephen Perez hit an RBI double to center.

Schill hit a two-out single to right to give the Suns the 3-0 lead.

Tony Renda gave the Suns a 4-0 lead in the fourth with a sacrifice fly.

Hagerstown picked up a run in the eighth when Higley drew a leadoff walk and stole second before scoring on Schill’s two-out single.

The Suns scored their final run in the ninth when Mike McQuillan scored on an errant throw off a forceout grounder by Lopez.

Schill, Lopez and McQuillan had two hits each to lead the Suns’ nine-hit attack.
