Martinsburg's newest K-9 to get bulletproof vest

April 10, 2013

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — Argos, the Martinsburg Police Department’s newest K-9, will receive a bulletproof vest thanks to a nationwide animal-related groupon event that ran from March 13 to 20, according to a police department news release.

Groupon Grassroots selected Vested Interest in K-9’s Inc. as its charity partner for the event.

Through an online $10 donation, people could purchase a groupon, which is a tax-deductible donation, through a secure website. All funds were allocated to purchase ballistic vests for police department K-9s, according to the release.

Vested Interest in K-9’s, a nonprofit organization, met its goal of raising $95,000 in just three days.

The campaign raised $155,375.33, which will provide bulletproof vests for 163 K-9s in 30 states, according to the release.

Vested Interest in K-9’s still is accepting donations. To send a donation, go to www.vik9s.org or send it by mail to Vested Interest in K-9’s Inc., P.O. Box 9, East Taunton, MA 02718.
