John Milton May, 88, of Hagerstown, Md., passed away Monday, April 8, 2013, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Martinsburg, W.Va.

Born March 25, 1925, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late William Henry May Jr. and Susan Elizabeth (Stotler) May. He was also preceded in death by his cousins who raised him, Ralph and Clara May.

Mr. May was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

He retired from the maintenance department at Potomac Edison.

Mr. May was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Hagerstown.

He is survived by one daughter, Lois A. Hollar and husband, David, of Hagerstown; two brothers, Lloyd and Kenny May, both of Pennsylvania; two grandsons, Douglas S. and Daniel S. Hollar, both of Hagerstown; and four great-grandchildren, Kera J., Seth D., Toby S. and Audrey D. Hollar.

In addition to his parents and cousins, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Alene Elton (Hofe) May; three brothers, Clarence May, Wilbur Stotler and Donald May; and one sister, Marion Holtry.

Funeral services will be Friday, April 12, 2013, at 11 a.m., at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, with the Rev. Clark D. Carr officiating. Interment will follow at Rest Haven Cemetery, where military honors will be accorded by the Maryland National Guard and AMVETS Honor Guard.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in John's name to Grace United Methodist Church, 712 W. Church St., Hagerstown, MD 21740.
