Conservation practices funding through bay watershed inititative extended

April 09, 2013

The Hagerstown-Washington County Economic Development Commission announced that the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Natural Resources Conservation Service, recently extended conservation practices funding under the Chesapeake Bay Watershed Initiative to April 19.

Funding selections are made at specific times throughout the year, with the next round of funding cycle deadlines set for May 17.

Applications are accepted, ranked and prioritized based on their potential to control erosion and reduce sediment and nutrient levels in local waters.

The programs and other partner organizations help private landowners implement conservation practices that protect the watershed’s soil and water resources while maintaining productive agriculture environments.

Farmers, property managers and owners can apply for conservation practice funding until Sept. 30, under the Taxpayer Relief Act. Applications are collected and evaluated monthly until funds are exhausted.
