 AAUW book sale April 18

AAUW Used Book Sale will be Thursday, April 18 through Saturday, April 20, at the ARC of Washington County, 1000 Florida Ave., Hagerstown.

The hours are 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday; an auction is at 1 p.m. for old books and rare finds; 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday; and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. Saturday is also half-price day.

This is the organization’s 50th year of book selling. All proceeds will go to scholarships and to the Washington County Free Library. For more information, call Jeanne Stoner at 301-733-2007.

North Hagerstown High School concert choir

The North Hagerstown High School Concert Choir, under the direction of Curt Shetler, will perform a concert of sacred and spiritual music at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 23, in the sanctuary of Haven Lutheran Church, 1035 Haven Road, Hagerstown.

Light refreshments will be provided at a brief reception following the performance. The concert is free and open to the public. For more information, call 301-733-5056.

Losses for the week were 16 pounds. Linda Baker and Barb Trumpower were the best TOPS losers; Mada Law and Mildred Hluchey were the best KOPS losers.

Louise Cline won the Ha! Ha! prize.

French fries are the no-no snack.

Cline also won the quarterly no-no prize for KOPS and Pat Sikes won for TOPS.

Jean Betker, a member of TOPS for 37 years, presented the program, which was the installation of new officers. The new officers are Patsy Price, leader; Patsy Martin, co-leader; Cindy Ryder, secretary; Judy Purdham, tressurer; and weight recorders Mary Lou Edmands and Kathy Freese. Elsie Horst was recognized as the outgoing weight recorder.

Annual awards presented included division weight-loss winners. Division II winners were Freese and Mike Reid; Division III winners were Linda Baker, Pat Horning and Eileen Mason. JoAnn M. was the Division IV winner. The holiday contest winners were Dorothy Martin, Nancy Itnyre and JoAnn M. The No-Gain Monday winners were Joan Jones, Charles House and Pat Sikes.

The many members who have weekly responsibilities that contribute to the smooth functioning and success of the group were presented with red roses.
