Neil Royce Lane, 82, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 3, 2013.

He is survived by his wife, Joan Lane; daughter, Susan Lane Finfrock and husband, Denny, of Chesterfield, Va.; son, Stephen "Steve" Lane and wife, Melanie, of Mount Airy, Md.; and daughter, Lori Lane Warrenfeltz and husband, Ron, of Mount Airy. He was lovingly known as Pap-Pap to eight grandchildren, Ben, Stephanie, Sarah, Joey, Andrea, Abbey, Tim and Alina; and three great-grandchildren, Selah, Quino and Josiah.

He was the son of Beulah and Levering Lane (deceased); and is survived by sister, Lillian; brother, Orval; sister, Fay; and brother, Alfred; and preceded in death by sister, Ethel; and brothers, Willis and Cletus.

Neil graduated from Hagerstown High School in 1948, and attended Hagerstown Junior College and George Washington University, majoring in electrical engineering. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1951 to 1955, and worked as an electronics technician for AT&T and various telecommunications companies.

He was a former member of the Frederick and Hagerstown Jaycees, and a member of Grace Baptist Church of Bowie, Md.

His body was donated for medical research. A private memorial service will be held by the family.

Epitaph, written by Neil: "Why do we live? What is the test? What is the measure of success? To know your Creator above all is best; and to know Him before your final rest."
