Extreme pole fitness a growing trend nationwide

It is a trend that is sweeping the nation, and Washington County refuses to be left behind.

Extreme pole fitness has arrived in Hagerstown.

Extreme Pole Fitness opened its doors on Frederick Street in January, and more than 257 women came to the grand opening to check out the latest trend.

“I have been a pole fitness instructor for five years. I taught in Baltimore for many years, so I am so excited to bring this great workout to Washington County,” said Melissa Needy, owner and instructor at Extreme Pole Fitness. “This workout is for people of all fitness levels. It is a complete, full-body workout and a great addition to any other workout program”

“The biggest challenge has been to get people to try the classes,” Needy added. “It is not a pole-dancing class. We all wear fitness clothes. I have a variety of age groups in my classes from 18 to 65 years old, so it is popular, and we have different levels of classes.”

The classes at the studio are booked months in advance.

“I have taken pole fitness for almost a year and have seen amazing results in my upper-body strength,” said Karen Sigler Goldstein of Keedysville. “I have met an amazing group of women who I am glad to call my friends, who encourage me to take on new challenges in class. I really look forward to Wednesday nights.”

“Pole fitness truly is for everyone, no matter what age you are or what size you are” said Deanna Schleigh of Hagerstown. “It is empowering and will challenge you no matter what your current fitness level may be. It is a total body-strength workout with cardio, too.”

“I have been taking pole fitness for almost a year now and I couldn’t imagine my life without it,” said Merranda Reeder of Hagerstown. “Just in a few months, I have seen my body and strength change drastically, and it’s by far the most amazing feeling ever.”

“When women try this, they tell me they are happy they tried it, Needy said. “It is not a seedy environment. We are getting fit. All classes are RSVP. You have to call in and reserve a place in the classes. I can help you lose weight and tone your body. We exercise legs, abs, shoulders. It’s a full-body workout. Don’t be put off by the fact we exercise on a pole.”

Extreme Pole Fitness will hold a Miss Extreme Pole Fitness event on Thursday, April 25, at Cancun Cantina West on Dual Highway. For more information, go to https://www.facebook.com/pages/Extreme-Pole-Fitness-Studio.
