PREP SOFTBALL

Smithsburg 13, Brunswick 0

BRUNSWICK, Md. — Kinsey Shifflett had three hits, including a two-run homer in the first inning, to lead Smithsburg to a 13-0 win over Brunswick in an MVAL Antietam game on Wednesday.

Sam Gladhill had three hits and three RBIs, Brooke Parks had three hits and an RBI, Cara Ferguson had two hits and three RBIs and Laura Hartman had two hits and two RBIs for the Leopards (2-2, 1-1).

Ferguson (2-2) allowed just four hits and struck out 11 to get the win. Every player had a hit for Smithsburg.

BOONSBORO — Tristan Hartle had two hits for Boonsboro in an MVAL Antietam loss to Catoctin.

The Warriors (0-3, 0-2) committed five errors leading to five unearned runs.

Brunswick 8, Smithsburg 2

BRUNSWICK, Md. — Gary Barrett had two hits and three RBIs to lead Brunswick past Smithsburg in the MVAL Antietam.

Chance Smith and Taylor Itnyre had two hits each and Blaine Price had a double for the Railroaders (3-2, 1-1).

Smithsburg (2-5, 1-3) was held to four hits, one on a double by Kyle Dinterman, who scored a run in the fourth inning.

Musselman 4, Berea 1

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — Musselman had its streak of three straight shutouts snapped, but the Applemen still defeated Berea (S.C.) at the Grand Strand Classic.

Hunter Stafford scattered seven hits, while Musselman (10-3) had 11, including three each by Jacob Whitmore and Tyler Gross.

The Applemen had beaten South Range on Tuesday 9-0 behind Darrin Zombro’s complete-game shutout.

Hedgesville 3, Bath County 2

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — Hedgesville scored three runs in the top of the seventh for its second straight win in the Grand Strand Classic.

The rally made a winner out of Derek Snider, who went the distance with six strikeouts, while allowing only three hits for the Eagles (8-2).

Williamsport alumni baseball game set

Williamsport High School will host an alumni baseball game on April 28. All proceeds will benefit the Brendon Colliflower Scholarship Fund.

There will be a home run derby at 11:30 a.m., followed by the game. There will be a silent auction of sports items.

In the nightcap, Hagerstown committed three errors that led to two unearned runs, including the tying run in the sixth and the winning run in the seventh.

Drew DeShong had two hits and an RBI for the Hawks (19-15).

LA PLATA, Md. — Hagerstown dropped both games of a doubleheader to the College of Southern Maryland by a combined two runs on Wednesday.

In the opener, Southern Maryland plated the winning run in the bottom of the eighth.

 Kayla Ewing hit a home run for the Hawks (9-10).
