Contract awarded for food service at detention center

A one-year contract in the amount of $713,611.50 was awarded Tuesday to Aramark Correctional Services Inc. to provide food services at the Washington County Detention Center.

The Washington County Board of Commissioners approved the award by a unanimous vote, contingent upon the approval later this year of the detention center’s overall budget request, which includes some new kitchen equipment.

The contract reflects a 17.3 percent increase over the current year’s appropriation of $608,450 for food service at the detention center, which carries about 425 inmates.

The increase is chiefly due to the need to add another supervisor to oversee operations and inmates working in the kitchen, according to Rick Curry of the county’s Purchasing Department.

The contract has four consecutive one-year renewal options, Curry said.

Telecommunications contract awarded

The Washington County Board of Commissioners on Tuesday unanimously approved the award of a one-year, $26,398.80 contract to Heavy Water LTD of New Rochelle, N.Y., to provide telecommunications services.

Budget permitting, the county plans to migrate to a new communications platform, called ShoreTel, over the next three to four years, according to Karen Luther, the county’s purchasing director.

Heavy Water will provide full parts and labor maintenance services to begin the migration, in accordance with the contract, which tentatively begins April 15.

The contract award is contingent upon the final agreement for the system change by county staff and attorneys. The contract has four one-year renewal options, Luther said.

Proposals were received from two other firms — Delta Telephone & Cabling Inc. of Crofton, Md., and Continuant of Fife, Wash.
