Mail Call - April 3

April 02, 2013

“Somebody from the tea party needs to explain this to me. Your motto is you don’t want government in your life, you don’t want government telling you what to do. But yet in the same breath, the same sentence, you’re telling women that they have to have an ultrasound, and they can’t have abortions. I’m not a genius, but isn’t that government — although being local government, isn’t that still telling you what ... sounds to me like you guys are talking out both sides of your mouth.”
— Hagerstown

“Hey, you people in Hagerstown, you people running Hagerstown, about this $1,000 pay increase you’re going to give every city worker, how about if everybody working for the city or work in Washington County that comes from Pennsylvania, West Virginia, shouldn’t get nothing. They shouldn’t even work in here.”
— Hagerstown

“Why do we have to support foreign countries? We’re in bad shape ourselves. What is wrong with our president and our Congress and our senators? All they think about is their own self. They don’t care about the poor people. Gas goes up ... And we need to build a gallows and put a rope and hang these people that want to kill people. That’ll put a stop to it.”
— Hagerstown

“I think that it’s nice that the city is giving Duvinage Corp. an interest-free loan. After all, they’re right up the road from where the new BOE offices will be.”
— Hagerstown

“They passed a law, if you have a child in your vehicle under 8 years old and you are smoking, you will be fined $50. When are they going to go into a fast-food restaurant and fine parents for feeding their child a double hamburger, large fries and large drink? When is that coming? When are they going to start fining parents for having fat kids? By the way, the child goes home to a smoke-filled house.”

“I’d just like to say that I think a movie theater, a nice movie theater with a nice snack bar, you know, maybe you could get a hot dog, bag of popcorn or something like that, would be a good asset to the downtown. I certainly, I know I’d go to the movies before I’d probably go to a baseball game, and it seems like it wouldn’t be that difficult or that expensive to put a nice movie theater in town. It would bring people from the surrounding areas to the downtown area, to take in a movie on a Saturday or a Sunday, or during the week.”
— Hagerstown

“I just want to let the people know in West Virginia and Pennsylvania, if they want to move to Hancock, don’t bother to change your tags. Leave your West Virginia tags on, your Pennsylvania tags on, because Hancock police department tells me there’s nothing they can do about it, to issue a summons, as long as you’re on the property. So come on in, you’re welcome. Leave your tags on.”
— Hancock

“I’m calling about the play that they put on in Waynesboro High School this past weekend, on March 17, the 16th, and the 15th. I just wanted to say it was a very, very good production, one of the best plays I’ve ever seen in a high school, and I want to thank all the parents, all the students ... Thank you so much for such an enjoyable Sunday afternoon.”
— Hagerstown

“If you come across a lost dog and you take it in, please do everything you can do to find its rightful owner. A lost pet to an owner is a heartbreak. Look for ID on the dog. It may also have an ID chip implant. Call the SPCA and notify them you have found someone’s pet. Don’t assume the pet owner is irresponsible and non-loving, because that isn’t usually the case. A lost dog wants to be home as bad as the owner.”
