Nominations sought for '5 Over 55' recognition

Commission on Aging to honor county seniors

The Washington County Commission on Aging will hold a “5 Over 55” contest to celebrate Older Americans Month in May.

The agency is asking the community to nominate a county senior citizen older than 55 who has demonstrated one of the five following characteristics:

• Athleticism — Demonstrates habits of good health and endurance.

• Industry — Long-serving professional in one line of employment or in several capacities.

• Scholarship — Individual devoted to improving awareness of the world through study and teaching.

• Volunteerism — One who has given their time and talent as a champion of senior causes.

• Exploration — A person who has traveled widely, especially to help foster cultural awareness.

The deadline for nominations is April 23.

Judges will select one nominee in each of the five categories as a winner. Winners will be recognized in May.
