March 31, 2013

A 64-year-old Clear Spring man died after a single-car crash Sunday afternoon on National Pike between Hagerstown and Clear Spring, according to Maryland State Police.

Ernest Robertson was taken to Meritus Medical Center near Hagerstown where he died, according to state police, who responded to the crash at 3:14 p.m.

Robertson was headed east on U.S. 40 east of St. Paul Road when he went across the westbound lane, struck an embankment and ended up in a stream bed, Sgt. Stacey Cain said.

Robertson was not wearing a seat belt, police said.

Robertson was the only person in the 2007 silver Saturn and he was still in the car when rescue crews arrived, Cain said.

National Pike was closed for about an hour while authorities worked at the scene.
