HAGERSTOWN — Tamara Nuzzaci Park is leaving her job as executive director of the Maryland Symphony Orchestra next month.

Park, who was hired for the position in August 2011, said the MSO’s board of directors has formed a search committee to look for her replacement. Her final day as executive director will be May 17.

According to MSO officials and Bravo, a publication of the MSO, Park said she and her husband have always dreamed of living in the mountains of Colorado and will be moving there.

Park said in a telephone interview that she plans to set up a consulting business to assist music festivals and to work with other organizations.

Park said the MSO is also using a headhunter in its attempt to find her replacement.

Park said her time with the MSO has been “wonderful.” She said in Bravo that the most rewarding aspect of her time as executive director has been working side-by-side with extraordinary people who bring the MSO to life.

Doris J. Nipps, president of the MSO board of directors, said the orchestra has received applications for the position and interviews will be conducted soon.

Nipps said if a replacement for Park cannot be found by the time she leaves, there is a plan to bring someone in temporarily until the position is filled.

Nipps said Park has offered to help the MSO if someone is not found by the time she leaves.

“I’m very sad to see her go,” Nipps said of Park.

Park began her professional career with the Washington National Opera as orchestra personnel and operations manager of the Kennedy Center Opera House Orchestra. She has worked with the National Repertory Orchestra in Breckenridge, Colo., the Fairbanks Summer Arts Festival in Fairbanks, Alaska, and Filharmonica Arturo Toscanini in Parma, Italy.
