Paul Andrew Kline, 87, of 17811 Timberlane in Hagerstown, Md., passed away Thursday, March 28, 2013, at Meritus Medical Center near Hagerstown.

Born July 2, 1925, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Charles Edwin Kline and Mary (Renner) Kline.

Paul graduated from Hagerstown High School in 1943 and enlisted in the U.S. Army to join the 101st Airborne Division. He served in the European Theater as a corporal in the 101st Division in Battery C of the 377th Parachute Field Artillery Battalion. He participated in all of the division’s major engagements, and was awarded the Purple Heart from wounds received during operation Market Garden.

After the war, he spent three years as a Maryland State Police trooper and an additional 30 years with the U.S. Postal Service until he retired in 1984. Since then, he spent the remainder of his time spoiling his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Evelyn (Pearman); two sons, Joseph and wife, Kathy Kline, of Boonsboro, Md., and Steven and wife, Janice Kline, of Chambersburg, Pa.; three grandchildren, Julie, Christopher and Curtis Kline; and three great-grandchildren, Garron Long, and Raven and Morgan Kline.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Charles, Harold and Donald; a sister, Virginia (Fogel); and his grandson, Michael Kline.

The family will receive friends Monday, April 1, 2013, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, and then proceed to Rose Hill Cemetery, 600 S. Potomac St., Hagerstown, for a graveside service at 1 p.m. 

Military honors will be provided by Washington County AMVETS Post 10 and Marine Corps League of Hagerstown.
