A used bookstore is moving into the former Borders Books & Music building on Garland Groh Boulevard in Hagerstown.

Laura Collins, a spokeswoman for 2nd & Charles, said the used bookstore chain is planning to open in Hagerstown by the end of April.

“There’s a variety of factors that go into choosing a site,” Collins said. “We found a good site and wanted to jump on it.”

She said the Hagerstown store would create about 20 jobs, including three managers and 15 associates.

The Borders bookstore in the Centre at Hagerstown on Garland Groh Boulevard closed in 2011 after the international book and music retailer filed for bankruptcy.

2nd & Charles specializes in buying and selling used books, audio books, CDs, DVDs, video games, game systems, vinyl records, comic books, iPods, iPads, eReaders and other related items, according to a company news release.

The 2nd & Charles in Hagerstown will offer cash or store credit for gently used merchandise that they buy and sell based on the product’s condition, current inventory and popularity.

Customers who want to sell used items can check them in when they enter the store and shop while their merchandise is processed, according to the release.

2nd & Charles also has sale bins where merchandise will be priced at $1, $2 or $3.

Collins said 2nd & Charles has stores in Alabama, Delaware, Georgia, North Carolina and Ohio. The Hagerstown store will be the company’s first in Maryland.
