Deadline to apply for Community Foundation scholarships is Monday

The Community Foundation of Washington County has scholarships to support the educational advancement of students in Washington County. 

Additionally, the Women’s Club Foundation Scholarship and the IAAP Hager Chapter Scholarship are available to adult women as well as traditional students meeting the established criteria. 

The deadline for application is Monday.

— IAAP Hager Chapter Scholarship Fund — This scholarship fund, created by the International Association for Administrative Professionals, will provide financial support to qualifying students pursuing a career in the administrative professional arena.

— Dr. Elizabeth Molina Morgan 2010 National Superintendent of the Year Scholarship Fund — A scholarship fund created in honor of Elizabeth Molina Morgan, former superintendent of Washington County Public Schools, for her 2010 distinction as National Superintendent of the Year. This scholarship will be awarded each year to a female graduate of Washington County Public Schools who demonstrates high academic promise and financial need.

— Ryan Myers Memorial Scholarship Fund — Created in memory of Ryan Myers to support scholarships to graduating seniors from public, private or accredited home-school programs in Washington County. Students must demonstrate a strong Christian character.

— Chris W. Smith Memorial Scholarship Fund — This scholarship, recognizing a graduating senior from a learning support program of Washington County Public Schools is the first of its kind in Washington County. Beginning in 2013, this scholarship fund will honor Chris’ dedication to learning support students by providing financial assistance to a student going on to post-secondary education. Preference given to students at Williamsport High School.


Boonsboro High School

— Boonsboro High School Class of 1970 Alumni Scholarship Fund — Established by the Boonsboro High School Class of 1970 Reunion Committee to provide educational scholarships for Boonsboro High School graduates.

— Joseph M. Ellis Memorial Scholarship Fund — This scholarship fund has been established in memory of Joseph M. Ellis to provide financial support to graduates of Boonsboro High School who demonstrate exemplary community service and are able to articulate how this service has affected their lives.

— Dwight Scott Scholarship Fund — A scholarship fund benefitting graduating senior athletes at Boonsboro High School. This fund is named in honor of Dwight Scott, longtime coach and friend of Warrior athletics.

— South County Scholarship — This scholarship will be awarded to deserving students graduating from Boonsboro High School.


Clear Spring High School

— Quinn Alec Hoover Legacy Scholarship — This scholarship was created in memory of Quinn Alec Hoover and his unique ability to touch the lives of others through his caring spirit.

— Walter W. Peterman Clear Spring High School Scholarship Fund — This fund was established by the Clear Spring High School Alumni Association to recognize and provide scholarships to graduating seniors pursuing a post-secondary education. Two awards are made each year to students who demonstrate outstanding leadership skills and excellence in science and excellence in music.

— George A. Sites Clear Spring High School Scholarship Fund — This fund was established by the Clear Spring High School Alumni Association to recognize and provide scholarships to graduating seniors pursuing a post-secondary education. Recipients will demonstrate outstanding leadership and academic standing.


North Hagerstown High School

— Christine Ecker Memorial Scholarship Fund — A scholarship fund established in memory of Christine Ecker to support scholarships for cheerleaders at her alma mater, North Hagerstown High School.


Smithsburg High School

— Mitchell Akers Leopard Spirit Memorial Scholarship Fund — This scholarship was created to memorialize Mitchell Akers’ irrepressible spirit and his passion for all things Smithsburg. Awards will begin in 2013.

— Officer Christopher Nicholson Scholarship Fund — Established in memory of Smithsburg Police Officer Christopher Nicholson, who was killed in the line of duty, this fund will provide a scholarships to a graduate of Williamsport High School and Smithsburg High School who plan to pursue a career in law enforcement.

— Young Scholars Fund — A scholarship fund established by Mike and Marlene Young to provide financial assistance to honor roll graduates of Smithsburg High School who pursue a course of study in business, music or education.


South Hagerstown High School

— Sherrill Koontz Memorial Scholarship Fund — An endowed fund established in memory of Washington County teacher and activist Sherry Koontz to provide scholarships to young women graduating from South Hagerstown High School.

— William “Bill” Maletzky Scholarship Fund — An endowed scholarship created by Maletzky and supported by gifts from his friends and family to fund scholarships for eligible graduating seniors at South Hagerstown High School.

— Ralph Stottlemyer Sr. Scholarship Fund — A scholarship fund created by Ralph “Coach” Stottlemyer, a 2002 People’s Choice Award winner, to provide scholarships for South Hagerstown High School students lettering in athletics.


Williamsport High School

— Brendon Colliflower Memorial Scholarship Fund — This scholarship fund has been established in memory of Brendon Colliflower. Of the many areas in which Brendon excelled, sports was a favorite, and this scholarship will provide financial support to graduating seniors at Williamsport High School with plans to pursue a collegiate sports career.


Participants in Washington County 4-H programs

— 4-H Dairy Scholarship Fund — Established to support post-secondary scholarships to participants in Washington County 4-H dairy programs.

— 4-H Livestock Scholarship Fund — Established to support post-secondary scholarships to participants in Washington County 4-H livestock and market steer programs.

— Barry W. McAllister Memorial Scholarship Fund — This scholarship has been created in memory of Barry W. McAllister to celebrate his lifelong love of farming and agriculture.

— Mildred A Schmid 4-H Scholarship Fund — Created by the Mildred A. Schmid 4-H Scholarship Trust to provide scholarships to deserving students from the Washington County area who will be studying in a post-secondary educational setting of their choice. Preference will be given to graduating high school seniors who have been involved with Washington County 4-H dog programs.
