Prep Basketball: Best in area and region showcased Saturday at North

HAGERSTOWN — The eighth Buffalo Wild Wings Roundball Classic is just ahead as 230 players from 110 different schools representing four states and the District of Columbia converge on North Hagerstown High School.

Organizer Dave Foltz has another seven-game agenda on tap Saturday on the Hubs floor, featuring five boys games and two girls contests.

Over the history of the event, more than $24,000 has been raised for various charities and organizations. Proceeds this year will benefit the Avery Snyder Memorial Fund, which supports sports camps for underprivileged children.

Top local seniors participating include West Virginia Player of the Year Donte Grantham of Martinsburg, Nnamdi Enechionyia of Saint James, Devon King of South Hagerstown, Kenny McCrary of North Hagerstown, Mawdo Sallah of Broadfording, Tyrus Fleetwood of St. Maria Goretti and Zach Faulkner of Greencastle-Antrim.

There will be no shortage of top committed players in action, including Andrew Calomeris of Good Counsel (Indiana), Nigel Johnson of Riverdale Baptist (George Washington), Anthony Thomas of Bullis (Holy Cross), Michael Wolfe of Georgetown Prep (Loyola), Bre Bolden of South River (College of Charleston), Dazia Hall of Bullis (Richmond), Alexis Smith of Calvert (Drexel) and Camille Calhoun of Archbishop Spalding (VCU).

Williamsport coach Scott Mowbray will lead the Suburban All Stars in the boys DMV Elite game and Greencastle’s Gary Martin will coach the Mason-Dixon All Stars in the Border War Elite game.

The seven-game schedule begins at 11:30 a.m. Games are planned to start every 90 minutes until the final game tips off at 8:30.
