Holstein association holds annual awards banquet

The Washington County Holstein Association held its annual banquet and awards meeting March 13.

Ryan Shank, president of the Washington County Holstein Association, said the county Holstein field day will be July 6, at 10 a.m. at the Washington County Agricultural Education Center. He also announced that Dr. Matt Iager and family would host the county Holstein picnic this summer.

Shank also said the association will host the 50th Maryland Holstein Convention and Sale in 2014.  The annual meeting and banquet will be held March 7 and the sale will be on July 11. Both events will be held at the ag center.

Donna Reese, secretary/treasurer for Maryland Holstein Association, congratulated Washington County Holstein Junior members who were honored for their Holstein project record books on the state level. 

They are Ashley Davis, third place, junior girl; Sydney Davis, fifth, place, intermediate girl; Tessa Wiles, honorable mention, senior; Noah Iager, second place, junior boy; and Ryan Snyder, third place, junior boy.

All five Washington County Junior Holstein members were also honored by Washington County Holstein. Each received an award sponsored by Mid-Maryland Dairy Veterinarians.

Reese introduced Laurie Savage as the new secretary/treasurer for the Maryland Holstein Association. Reese will be retiring this spring after 14 years of service.

Junior awards for 2012 milk production records (305 days) were presented to:

  • High 2 Year Old and High Cow Overall (sponsored by Misty Meadow Farm), Tessa Wiles, Md-Heavensent Claire-Red, 25,190 pounds of milk
  • High 3 Year Old (sponsored by Heavensent Holsteins), Tessa Wiles, Md-Heavensent Redliner Carma, 22,660 pounds of milk
  • High 4 Year Old (sponsored by DeBaugh Farms), Scott DeBaugh, DeBaugh Talent Snow Day, 25,168 pounds of milk
  • High Aged Cow (sponsored by Crown Stone Farm), Scott DeBaugh, DeBaugh Talent Rosebush, 23,197 pounds of milk
  • High Lifetime (sponsored by Palmyra Farm), Tessa Wiles, HSH Rubens Lady McBeth, 170,780 pounds of milk

Senior awards for 2012 milk production records (305 days) were presented to:
  • High 2 Year Old, Misty Meadow Farm, MD-Misty Medo Jazz JLynn, 26,717 pounds of milk
  • High 3 Year Old, Brian Forsythe, Linden Hall Farm, Linden-Hall Granger Atlas, 29,308 pounds of milk
  • High 4 Year Old and High Cow Overall, Misty Meadow Farm, MD-Misty Medo Total Tia, 33,336 pounds of milk
  • High Aged Cow, Joanna Calimer, Linden Hall Farm, Linden-Hall Coleminer Wendy, 27,759 pounds of milk
  • High Lifetime, Palmyra Farm, Palmyra Terrific Becky, 213,515 pounds of milk
  • High Herd For Milk, Palmyra Farm, 22,980 pounds of milk
  • High BAA more than 50 Cows, Jared G. Martin, 106.4
