WESTMINSTER, Md. — McDaniel College theatre arts students perform in “Intimate Portraits,” an original ensemble-devised work. Free and open to the public, performances are Wednesday, April 17, through Saturday, April 20, at 7:30 p.m. in WMC Alumni Hall at McDaniel College, 2 College Hill.

Among the students performing are:

  • Senior Shelley Hierstetter of Mount Airy, Md.
  • Sophomore Colin Evans of Frederick, Md.
  • Sophomore Sarah Hull of Keedysville
  • Freshman Brittany Beene of Emmitsburg, Md.
READING, Pa. — The following area students have been awarded scholarships to attend Alvernia University this fall:

  • Joseph Gondeck of Frederick, Md., has been granted the Presidential Scholarship to study athletic training. Gondeck is a senior at Tuscarora High School in Frederick, Md.
  • Abigail McCarthy, of Emmitsburg, Md., has been granted the Presidential Scholarship to study nursing. McCarthy is a senior at Catoctin High School in Thurmont, Md.

WAYNESBURG, Pa. — The following area students were named to the dean’s list for the fall semester at Waynesburg University:
  • Nicholas T. Cavell of Boonsboro, a junior who is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree in criminal justice administration. He graduated from New Life Christian School.
  • Zachary D. Morgan of Greencastle, Pa., a junior who is pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in sports management. He is a graduate of Grace Academy.
PHILADELPHIA — Lindsay Beth Whitelock, daughter of Dr. James and Susan Whitelock, has been hired as a graduate assistant in the Department of Biology at Villanova University.

She is enrolled in the master’s degree program in biology at Villanova and is completing her research in molecular cell biology.

She is a 2008 graduate of Chambersburg Area Senior High School. She graduated from Delaware Valley College in 2011 with a degree in biology. While at Delaware Valley, she served as student ambassador, student government representative, achieved dean’s list status for eight consecutive semesters and was a member of “Who’s Who Among Students in American Colleges.”

She received the William Allison Endowed Memorial Biology Scholarship and the Kimberly Ann Flosdorf Biology Memorial Scholarship during her junior year.

At the annual Founder’s Day Convocation and Student Award Ceremony, she received the Biology Departmental Award given to a senior who has demonstrated strong academic success in her department. She hopes to pursue her Ph.D. in biology upon completion of her master’s degree at Villanova University.
