Paul L. Black, 65

Paul Leonard Black, 65, of Keedysville, Md., passed away Thursday, March 21, 2013, at Meritus Medical Center.

Born Friday, Oct. 31, 1947, in Lawrence, Mass., he was the son of the late Barney Black and the late Helen (Elias) Black.

He graduated from Johns Hopkins University with a bachelor of arts degree and Ph.D. in biochemistry. Paul held numerous research positions, but spent most of his career with the National Institutes of Health. He was an active member of Otterbein United Methodist Church in Hagerstown, Md., and enjoyed watching all types of sports. Paul was a loving husband and father and will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Renee S. Black; daughter, Anne O'Neil Black of Baltimore, Md.; and son, Peter V. Black of Keedysville.

He was preceded in death by a son, Christopher B.J. Black.

Memorial services will be held Monday, March 25, 2013, at 11:30 a.m. at Otterbein United Methodist Church, 108 E. Franklin St., Hagerstown,  with the Rev. Dr. Stephen D. Robison officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Otterbein United Methodist Church, Hagerstown.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown.
