Tickets available for Achievers banquet

Tickets are available for the annual Hagerstown YMCA Achievers Banquet set for Saturday, April 13, at the Clarion Hotel 901 Dual Highway in Hagerstown.

Tickets cost $25 for adults and $15 for those ages 4 to 11.

Elks Lodge 278 will hold karaoke night Thursday, March 28, starting at 9:30 p.m.

The lodge is at 326 N. Jonathan St. in Hagerstown.

Contestants will have a chance to win a first-, second- or third-place prize.

Summer camp counselors sought

In preparation for the summer camp at Memorial Recreation Center, applications will be accepted for camp counselors and/or lifeguards.

Applications for campers (those ages 6 to 12) will be available starting Monday, April 15.

Storyteling workshop to be held March 28

A storytelling writing circle will be held at Memorial Recreation Center Thursday, March  28, from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

Mentor group to meet Monday

The Teens With Hope mentoring group will meet Monday at 5:15 at Memorial Recreation Center.

Tracy Brown will be the guest speaker. Her topic will be “Every Hair on Your Head is a Number.”

Financial workshop to be held Tuesday

A financial literacy workshop will be held Tuesday at Memorial Recreation Center from 7 to 8 p.m.

Toni Sandridge, a State Farm agent, will discuss budget issues.

Basketball tournament

The Mary Washington Basketball Tournament will be held Friday, March 29, starting at 6 p.m. and Saturday, March 30, starting at 10 a.m. at the MLK gymnasium, 131 W. North Ave.

Admission costs $5.

Donations needed for March 30 egg hunt

Memorial Recreation Center is in need of donations for the Easter egg hunt scheduled for Saturday, March 30, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Wheaton Park.  

Volunteers sought to do some gardening

Volunteers are needed  Friday, April 5, and Saturday, April 6, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. to relocate the garden at Memorial Recreation Center. 

The community is invited to come and help. Youth are encouraged and can earn up to eight service learning hours.

Youth volunteers must call 301-790-0203 to confirm that they will be participating to receive credit for their hours.

Day Nursery to hold bingo event April 14

Hagerstown Day Nursery will hold a Longaberger/Vera Bradley bingo event Sunday, April 14, at the Elks Lodge on Robinwood Drive in Hagerstown.

Advance tickets cost $25 or $30 at the door for 25 games and a meal.

Doors open at 11:30 a.m., the meal will be served at 12:15 p.m. and an early-bird warmup for cash starts at 1 p.m. There will be raffles, tip jars and King Tuts. Participants must be 18 to play.

Proceeds will go to Hagerstown Day Nursery, a nonprofit child development center.

Plant sale planned at ag center April 27

The Washington County Master Gardeners will hold a plant sale Saturday, April 27, from 8 a.m. to noon at the Washington County Agricultural Education Center, 7303 Sharpsburg Pike in Boonsboro. 

The plant sale — now indoors — will feature hundreds of plants grown by Master Gardeners, a garden market, silent auction, learning stations, children’s activities and a breakfast from 7:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. by the friends of the Rural Heritage Museum.
