Mowbray to give talk about guitarist

March 21, 2013

Hagerstown Community College will present its annual Kreykenbohm lecture series Thursday, March 28, beginning at 7 p.m. at the Kepler Center on HCC’s main campus.

This year’s lecture will feature classical guitarist Candice Mowbray, who will speak about French guitar virtuoso Ida Presti. Presti is considered by many to be one of the greatest classical guitarists in history.

Mowbray will discuss Presti’s work and background and will also perform a selection of Presti’s compositions.

An active solo performer, chamber musician and guest lecturer, Mowbray has performed at a number of festivals and events, including the Bethlehem Guitar Festival, the Philadelphia Guitar Society concert series, and the IberoAmerican Guitar Festival. She has a doctorate of musical arts in classical guitar performance.

This year’s lecture will coincide with the opening reception for “Still in Motion,” a mixed-media, drawing and painting exhibit featuring the work of Kate Keely and Jennifer Hand.

HCC’s annual lecture series is named after Helen Kreykenbohm, a retired professor of foreign languages and former humanities division chair at HCC. Held annually each year, the Kreykenbohm lecture series seeks to promote the arts and humanities in the local area.
