Southern Fulton girls fall in state semifinals

GIRLS BASKETBALL

ENOLA, Pa. — Southern Fulton finished its season with an 82-45 loss to Tri-Valley in the PIAA Class A state semifinals on Tuesday night.

Macey Hollenshead had 13 points and four assists for the Indians (26-4), while Kayla Wertz had 11 points, including three 3-pointers, Taelor Morton had four assists and Ashley Roman had six rebounds in the loss.

Tri-Valley (27-3) led 30-4 at the end of the first quarter.

Saint James 22, St. Andrew’s 2

POTOMAC, Md. — Ryan Brown had four hits, including  a grand slam to highlight a 16-run sixth inning, in Saint James’ season-opening win over St. Andrew’s.

Brown added four RBIs, Bobby Leatherman had four hits, including a home run, and five RBIs, Tyler George and Ben Holland had three hits and three RBIs each, Brad Vitkun had two hits, including a home run, and Mitchell Wilson had two hits and two RBIs for the Saints (1-0).

Cody Butts pitched a complete game with six strikeouts for the win.

HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. — Courtney Layhew had three hits, including a double and an inside-the-park home run, to lead Hedgesville past Jefferson.

Brenna Haught had two hits, including a double, for the Eagles (1-0).

Jenna Witt had two hits, including a home run, and Kaitlyn Boyd had a home run for the Cougars (1-1).

Jessica Swarner scored four goals to lead St. Maria Goretti to its first win of the season.

Kaitlyn Barnhart had three goals, Courtney Dorsey had two goals, Cierra Quantock had a goal and Denise Wells had five saves for the Gaels (1-1).

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. — Boonsboro graduate Alice D’Alauro earned a singles victory and contributed to a doubles victory for Shepherd University in the Rams’ win.

Rachel Harrison, Brooke Davis and Emily Johnson also earned singles wins. D’Alauro and Katelynn Mumaw earned a doubles win, as did Harrison and Davis.


WOMEN’S LACROSSE

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. — Georgia Karr had five goals and two assists for Shepherd as the Rams improved to 6-3 with a win over Urbana (0-5).
