Student artwork to be on display at Trilogy Center

March 19, 2013

Artwork created by local high school students will soon fill the walls of the first-floor lobby of the Trilogy Professional Center, at 1165 Imperial Drive, Hagerstown.

More than 90 Washington County public high school students recently competed in the 2013 Trilogy Fine Arts Competition, the first such event sponsored by Trilogy Professional Group, LLC, which includes Drs. David Solberg, Andrew Oh and Mitesh Kothari.

When the Trilogy Professional Center was completed in October 2011, the group wanted to feature local art on the walls, and so the idea of an art competition among students was formed.

“We wanted an opportunity to give back to a community that has supported us so much. What better way to do that than by featuring the talents of our local youth and supporting our school art programs?” Solberg said.

Over the past year, the group has worked with local public high school teachers, administrators and design consultant Robin Lyles to develop the competition.

Judging the art on March 11 were Rebecca Massie Lane, director of Washington County Museum of Fine Arts; Bill Davis, a local artist and art teacher based in Smithsburg; and Eric Ryan Jones, a graduate of St. Maria Goretti High School, who lives and works in New York as an art designer.

Twelve finalists were selected, and their pieces will be displayed in the lobby of the center, off Eastern Boulevard, for the next year.

“Best of show,” second, and third prizes were selected from that group of 12 and will be announced Tuesday, March 26, at an opening night exhibition at the center.

The Trilogy group hopes to make this an annual event.
