March 15, 2013

Doris Jean Lemen Agee died at her home in Martinsburg, W.Va., on Thursday, March 14, 2013.

She was born in Martinsburg on Sept. 4, 1931, and was the daughter of the late Shelbie Clayton Lemen and Myrtle Irene Mason Lemen.

Doris was a 1949 graduate of Martinsburg High School, and earned her RN degree from King's Daughters Hospital School of Nursing in 1952, where she was honored with the Florence Nightingale Award. She worked as a private duty nurse at KD Hospital; as an OB-GYN nurse in the private practice of the late Dr. John H. Kilmer; and gave 22 years of dedicated service as a plant nurse for the E.I. du Pont facility in Falling Waters, W.Va.

An active member of St. John's Lutheran Church for more than 50 years, she enjoyed singing alto in the Martin's choir, serving on the altar guild, and in earlier years, playing piano for the Sunday School department.

She also was a past volunteer at the C-CAP Loaves and Fishes food pantry in Martinsburg.

A lover of nature, she especially enjoyed spending time for many summers in Canaan Valley, W.Va., where she made friends in the area and among the bird banders at the Allegheny Front Migration Observatory at Dolly Sods. Her keen sense of humor, positive outlook on life, and her kind, caring ways endeared her to both her family and her friends.

She is survived by her husband of 60 years, William Revelie Agee; her daughter, Cheryl Lynn Agee Losh and husband, Richard, of Martinsburg; son, David William Agee and wife, Terese, of Jamison, Pa.; and son, Daniel Lemen Agee and wife, Kimberly, of Martinsburg.

She cherished her eight grandchildren, Matthew Losh and wife, Kristin, of Concord, N.C., Eric Losh of Brooklyn, N.Y., Allison Losh Flynn and husband, Kevin, of Frederick, Md., Daniel S. Agee of Doylestown, Pa., Julie Agee of Harrisburg, Pa., Eryn Agee Mills and husband, Chad, of Martinsburg, Amanda Agee Ferenchick and husband, Jamie, of Martinsburg, and Jonathan Agee and wife, Trina, of Hagerstown, Md. She also dearly loved her three great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn Losh and Skyler Smith of Concord, and Amelia "Mia" Mills of Martinsburg. Also surviving her are nephews, nieces, and their families.

Preceding her in death were an infant brother, Prince; and sisters, Audrey V. Lewis, Wanda Wynkoop, and Mary Ann Shackelford.

Memorial services will be held Tuesday, March 19, 2013, at 11 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church, with the Rev. James Riley officiating. Interment will be in Rosedale Cemetery.

Family will receive friends Monday, March 18, 2013, from 7 to 9 p.m. at  Brown Funeral Home.
