Mail Call - March 15

March 14, 2013

“Remodel the Suns stadium where it is. The water problem can be fixed. San Francisco Giants stadium is below sea level. Think about converting the Hagerstown power plant into a parking garage for the stadium. That would save some of the teardown money for the powerhouse.”
— Keedysville

“The way our government is right now, that is just further proof that we have very little leadership, if there is any. Just like the state of Maryland. We have one group of legislators here in Western Maryland that try to help the taxpayers, but they can’t make any headway. My comment is this: Federal employees, I don’t have any sympathy for them. They make outrageous salaries and have huge pensions. What troubles me is the federal government that goes for important medical research should not be tampered with.”
— Hagerstown

“I’m disgusted with our state senator and delegates for not having the guts to oppose the NRA, and not supporting the ban on assault weapons and ammo. I am a Vietnam veteran, and there is no need for these kinds of weapons, except in war. If you had any conscience you would have voted against this, for all the dear little children in Newtown.”
— Hagerstown

“I have a suggestion for the relocation of the BOE. How about putting it on Summit Avenue and Baltimore Street, where you wanted to put the stadium? This way, you can clear all that out, build the building there, and there’ll be plenty of room for all the parking. This way it helps with the redevelopment of downtown, with minimal noise, because it’s only Monday to Friday. I think this would be a good idea — also for the restaurants, too.”
— Hagerstown

“In response to the secret shoppers that go into stores to check to see if things are the way they should be, for the owners or the employees, anyways, if you’re not doing your job, then you need to be caught and be going somewhere else to work. So don’t come down on the secret shoppers. They’re doing their job, and if you would be doing yours, there would be no complaints. It’s to give better service to the public. And as far as people throwing trash out, that means they don’t have a very good upbringing.”
— Hagerstown

“There’s a message in the paper this morning, Monday, March 4, about a senior citizen who’s been starving and shivering all winter. We have no way to find out who you are, so that we can help, but there are organizations who will help you if you will contact them. The Salvation Army, for one, and I know that there are others that will help with fuel bills. But we have no idea how to contact you. Can you help us?”
— Washington County

“Herald-Mail, please rerun last week’s column containing Sen. Mikulski’s email, telling us the dire consequences we would feel if sequestration were allowed to take place. I just wanted to see if what I am now feeling is what she was talking about.”
— Hagerstown
