Challenger Little League to hold registration

The District 1 Challenger Little League will hold registration Saturday from noon to 1:30 p.m. at South Side Bowling Alley on Virginia Avenue and Wednesdays, March 27, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Maugansville Ruritan Building on Maugans Avenue. 

The Challenger League is a baseball league for physically challenged children between 5 and 18 years of age.

It is open to children in Washington County.

Two games each week are played at Maugansville Little League.
The season begins April 6 and ends July 4. New players should bring a copy of their birth certificate and proof of insurance to registration. There is no cost to register.

Ruritan pancake breakfast

The Maugansville Ruritan Club will host a pancake breakfast Saturday, March 23, from 6:30 to 11 a.m. at its blue building on Maugans Avenue.

The all-you-can-eat breakfast includes pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausage, sausage gravy, juice, coffee and tea.

Breakfast costs $5.50 for adults, $3 for those ages 6 to 12, and will be free for those ages 5 and younger. There is plenty of free parking, and lines move quickly.

This will be the final breakfast until September, and the club thanks all who have supported its events.

Historical Society meeting

The Middleburg/Mason-Dixon Line Historical Society will meet Thursday, March 21, at 7 p.m. at the State Line Ruritan Building off U.S. 11 at the State Line, Pa., Community Park.

The guest speaker will be Shelby Golden of Greencastle, Pa., who will present “Dolly Harris, Greencastle’s Heroine.”

In costume, Golden will give a glimpse into the life of Frances “Dolly” Harris, a courageous, flag-waving teenager who bravely confronted Gen. George Pickett and Confederates, marching through Greencastle to Gettysburg in late June 1863.

Dolly Harris was buried with military honors.
The public is invited to the free event. Light refreshments will be served.

Sports card show planned Sunday

There will be a sports card show Sunday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Maugansville Ruritan Club building, 18007 Maugans Ave. 

There will be 35 vendor tables and door prizes.

Admission is free.
