Pa. man charged in warrant with robbing bank

FREDERICK, Md. — A Greencastle, Pa., man has been charged in a warrant with robbing a bank Wednesday afternoon in Frederick, the Frederick Police Department said.

James Raymond Vanwinkle, 36, whose last known address was Greencastle, was charged in an arrest warrant with robbery, according to a Frederick police news release.

Police said they were called for a report of an armed robbery at 3:23 p.m. at the Sun Trust Bank at 1700 Rosemont Ave. When officers arrived in the area, they found a vehicle that matched the description of the one used in the robbery.

The vehicle fled when officers tried to stop it in the area of U.S. 15 and West Seventh Street, according to the release. After a brief chase, the vehicle was found without the driver in the 100 block of South Market Street.

Police said an investigation revealed that Vanwinkle was the owner and driver of the car.

During the robbery, Vanwinkle showed a note and was able to get away with an undisclosed amount of money, according to the release.

Officers said no injuries were reported during the chase, which was assisted by Maryland State Police and the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office.
