Smithsburg Middle students to hold benefit concert for St. Jude

March 14, 2013

The Music Department at Smithsburg Middle School will hold its third annual benefit concert Tuesday, March 19, at 7 p.m. at Smithsburg High School.

This year, concert donations will raise funds for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital through the Special Events for St. Jude fundraising program. St. Jude is one of the world’s premier centers for the research and treatment of pediatric cancer and other catastrophic childhood diseases.

The concert will feature performances by the Smithsburg Middle School Eighth Grade Band, Eighth Grade Chorus, and Festival Orchestra.  Each group will perform three selections they have prepared for the Washington County Large Ensemble Adjudication Festival held later that week.

St. Jude depends on community-based fundraising programs like Special Events for St. Jude. At St. Jude, families never pay for treatment not covered by insurance and no child is ever denied treatment because of the family’s inability to pay. St. Jude has treated children from all 50 states and around the globe. The hospital freely shares its discoveries with scientific and medical communities worldwide.
