VERO BEACH, Fla. — Hagerstown split a pair of games on Wednesday, winning in a rout over Miami Middletown followed by a loss to Sauk Valley.

Cooper Ayres had four hits and two RBIs, C.J. Owings had three hits and an RBI and Tyler Walter had three hits in the win over Miami Middletown. Dylan Dunn, Garrett Sprankle and Drew DeShong had two hits and an RBI each and Devin Schaeffer and Jordan Nicewarner had two RBIs each.

In the loss to Sauk Valley, Dunn and Walter each had two hits and an RBI and Owings had two hits for the Hawks (12-5).

ORLANDO, Fla. — Mercersburg Academy picked up its first win of the season at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.

Mike Collins threw four innings of five-hit ball allowing one unearned run.

Trustin Riley had three hits for the Blue Storm (1-1) and Lorenzo Vasquez, Jamie Cooper, colin Gibbons-Fly and Brad Wastler each had two hits.

FREDERICK, Md. — Mike Ewing scored two goals and Matt Casto added one for Goretti in its loss to St. John’s Catholic Prep in an IPSL contest.

Mike Fairley had 15 saves in goal for Goretti (0-2, 0-1).



BRIEF

Softball clinic this weekend

Maryland District 1 Little League has been selected to host a softball clinic for the entire Eastern Region at Halfway Little League in Marty Snook Park on Saturday.

The clinic will be run by Softball Factory of Columbia, Md., and will be broken into three age groups.

The Little League Futures Clinic begins at 8:30 a.m. and is for players ages 8 to 10. It focuses on fundamentals of the game while incorporating fun challenges for the players. Cost is $49 per player.

The Little League Development Clinic begins at noon and is for players ages 10 to 12. It also focuses on fundamentals and players also will receive an evaluation accessible through the member section of the Softball Factory website. They will receive corrective video based on their evaluation to help continue their development. Cost is $69 per player.

The Little League Evaluation Program begins at 5 p.m. and is for players ages 13 to 18. In addition to the benefits listed above, players will be entered into Softball Factory’s Point, Click + Recruit Database, which is free for every college coach in the country to help in recruiting efforts. Cost is $69 per player.

The clinic is not limited to girls who play Little League Softball; all girls are welcome and encouraged to participate.
