Mrs. Rebecca L. Leatherman, 91, of Wolfsville, Md., entered peacefully into eternal life on Tuesday, March 12, 2013, at Meritus Medical Center near Hagerstown.

Born May 30, 1921, near Middletown, Md., Rebecca was the daughter of the late George Edgar and Edna Irene Palmer Shank. Upon the passing of her parents, Rebecca resided in Hagerstown with her Uncle Leon and Aunt Eva Brandenburg Palmer and also Mr. and Mrs. William H. Brandenburg near Wolfsville.

She was the wife of the late Carroll Charles Leatherman, who passed in May 1991. Rebecca and Carroll were married in May 1945.

As a longtime member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Rebecca was a superintendent of the Primary Department, taught Sunday school and sang in the church choir. Rebecca's loves in life were growing her flowers, gardening, tending her chickens, watching birds and spending time with her family.

Rebecca is survived by her three sons, Stephen C. Leatherman and wife, Carolyn, of Wolfsville; Mark W. Leatherman and fiancée, Merrilee, of Washington, D.C., and Thomas E. Leatherman of Wolfsville; and three grandchildren, Thomas E. Leatherman II and wife, Hilery, of Middletown; Rhonda K. Wastler and husband, Jared, of Littlestown, Pa., and Blythe R. Leatherman of Cabin John, Md. Rebecca was also very proud of her six great-grandchildren. She will be remembered by a wide circle of loving relatives, neighbors and friends.

Mrs. Leatherman was preceded in death by her sister, Geneva Irene Palmer; brother, Col. Robert Edgar "Tim" Shank; brothers-in-law, Paul Leatherman and Richard Spangler; and daughters-in-law, Diane H. Leatherman and Janene K. Leatherman.

Funeral services will be Friday, March 15, 2013, at 11 a.m. at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Wolfsville, with Pastor David Howell officiating. Burial will be in the adjoining church cemetery.

The family will receive friends Friday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church.

In memory of Mrs. Leatherman, memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to your local 4-H Club, an organization very dear to her heart.
