HCC suffers tough loss despite gem

VERO BEACH, Fla. — Lucas Bakkar pitched a four-hit shutout, striking out 10 to lead North Iowa past Hagerstown Community College on Sunday.
Dakota Deshong was the hard-luck loser for HCC (9-3). The left-hander allowed one run on two hits and three walks while striking out six.
North Iowa scored the game’s only run in the fourth inning on a single, walk, groundout and sacrifice fly.

Shepherd 9, Lock Haven 4
SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. — Shepherd University fell behind 4-0, then rallied past Lock Haven.
Lock Haven (1-5) took a 3-0 lead in the first inning and added a run in the fourth.
Shepherd (4-9) cut the lead to 4-1 in the bottom of the fourth on Chad Murphy’s RBI single.
The Rams added three runs in the fifth for a 4-4 tie. Kyle Porter and Jake Cook hit RBI singles and T.J. Weisenburg added a sacrifice fly,
Shepherd took a 6-4 lead in the sixth. Cody Bumbaugh was hit by a pitch, Mark McCormick doubled and both runners scored on a throwing error.
The Rams tacked on three runs in the eighth, with RBI singles by Cook and Murphy leading the rally.
Murphy went 3-for-4 and drove in two runs to lead Shepherd. Cook, Porter, and McCormick each had two hits. Starter Davis Hall got the win, allowing four runs on seven hits and three walks while striking out six in six innings.
