Washington County 911 service restored after 90-minute outage

March 10, 2013

Rescue crews were notified Sunday afternoon that the county’s 911 lines were down.

They were notified of the service problem at about 4:52 p.m. and people needing help were told they should directly contact emergency medical service departments, fire departments or police departments for help, according to James Ulrich, chief of operations for Smithsburg Emergency Medical Services.

The Washington County 911 center sent an emailed news release at 6:37 p.m. saying the 911 service had returned to normal and that Verizon located the problem.

A Washington County 911 supervisor said Sunday night that she did not know what caused the service outage.
