George Tilghman “Jack” Boward, 80, of Clear Spring, Md., died Friday, March 8, 2013, at Golden Living Center in Hagerstown, Md.

Born Aug. 24, 1932, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Guy C. Boward and Dorotha J. Spickler Boward.

Jack was a 1950 graduate of Clear Spring High School. He graduated from Columbia Business College and also attended Oklahoma State University.

He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1950 to 1953 during the Korean War.

He retired from Lonestar Cement as maintenance supervisor after 45 years of service.

He was a member for more than 60 years at St. John’s United Church of Christ in Clear Spring and served in many capacities at the church.

He was an avid Washington Redskins fan for more than 70 years and a season ticket holder for 50 years.

He was a 50-year member of the Medairy Lodge A.F.&A.M. 140 in Williamsport and a 50-year member Scottish Rite of Free Masonry (Valley Orient of Maryland). He was a member of Ali Ghan of Cumberland, Md., Hagerstown Shrine Club, Sayara Unit, Royal Order of the Jesters Cumberland Court 117, Masonic Veteran Associate of Maryland, Kentucky Colonels Club of Western Maryland, B.P.O. Order of the Elks Lodge 378 and Joseph C. Herbert American Legion Post 222 of Clear Spring.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret “Peg” Boward; a brother, Donald L. Boward and wife, Kay, of Greencastle, Pa.; seven nieces; one nephew; and several great-nieces, -nephews and cousins.

Services will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at St. John’s United Church of Christ, 211 E. Cumberland St., Clear Spring. The Rev. Charles M. Mackley will officiate. Burial will be in St. Paul’s Cemetery, Clear Spring,

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. John’s United Church of Christ, General Fund, 211 E. Cumberland St., Clear Spring, MD 21722.
