Dinner planned at AME Church

The last fundraiser for the ladies of Ebenezer AME Church will be a turkey dinner Sunday, starting at 1 p.m. at Bethel Gardens Community Center, 356 Henry Ave. in Hagerstown

The menu includes turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, sweet potatoes, sauerkraut, green beans, cranberry sauce, roll and dessert. 

The meal costs $10. Patrons can eat in or carry out.

Cinderella’s Closet

The annual Cinderella’s Closet fundraiser to benefit the Humane Society of Washington County will be Friday at 4:30 p.m. 

The students will host the event in their classroom at Washington County Technical High School, 50 W. Oak Ridge Drive in Hagerstown.

The program is designed to provide formal dresses for students at greatly reduced prices. None of the dresses will be sold for more than $40.

The event is open to the public.

Canine games

Peaceable Paws, at 17816 Spielman Road, will hold its canine games Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the dog training facility in Fairplay.

Achievers banquet

The annual Hagerstown YMCA Achievers Banquet will be Saturday, April 13, at the Clarion Hotel, 901 Dual Highway in Hagerstown. 

Social hour starts at 6 p.m., followed by the program and dinner at 6:30.

Adult Achievers to be are honored for being positive role models in the community are Brenda Thiam, autism specialist for Washington County Board of Education, and Octavia Harris, director of human resources for Volvo Truck Operations. 

Teen Achievers will also be recognized at the event.

The keynote speaker will be Michael Markoe, associate superintendent for educational improvement and innovation, who will talk about this year’s banquet theme, “Be, Believe, Become.”

Alumni meeting

The South Hagerstown High School Alumni Association will meet Thursday, March 14,  in the media center at 7 p.m.

The agenda will include scholarships, the annual golf tournament and an alumni football game.

Any graduate of South High is welcome to attend.

The Neighborhoods 1st Medal of Honor Group’s 2013 Neighborhood Day of Hope will be Saturday, May 18, from noon to 4 p.m. at Wheaton Park in Hagerstown.
