Leila Starliper Vance, 91, of Clear Spring, Md., and a resident of Homewood Nursing Home, passed away Thursday, March 7, 2013, at Homewood.

Born Nov. 11, 1921, in Clear Spring, she was the daughter of the late Samuel Wilson Starliper and Lethean Hauer Knode Starliper.

Leila was preceded in death by her loving husband, Homer Leroy Vance, in 2005.

She was a lifetime member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church of Clear Spring, where she served on the choir for many years, and served as the treasurer and with the women of the church.

She was a member of Clear Spring Homemakers Club.

Mrs. Vance was a 1939 graduate of Clear Spring High School, and retired in 1987 from Harper and Rowe Publishing Co.

Leila is survived by her son, David Allan Vance of Clear Spring; and nieces and nephews, Charles Harry Starliper, Beverly Ann Stenger, Betty Lou Fockler, Robert Samuel Starliper, Sidney Allen Starliper and David Russell Starliper.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Nellie Marie Kerfoot; brothers, Frank J. Starliper, Charles S. Starliper, Mason M. Starliper and Henry F. Starliper; and a niece, Patricia Lee McKee.

Services will be Monday, March 11, 2013, at 11 a.m. at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 30 S. Martin St., Clear Spring. The Rev. Elaine Swinehart will officiate. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. at Donald Edwin Thompson Funeral Home Inc., 13607 National Pike, Clear Spring.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Peter's Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 198, Clear Spring, MD 21722.
